Healing
Equine Bodywork: Ttouch, Myofacial Release, and Reiki
techniques are combined with the use of Cold Laser to
produce pain relief, ease tension and speed healing. Each
of these techniques are gentle yet effective. Unlike
massage, Ttouch, Laser and Reiki all can be used
immediately on an injury to reduce swelling and trauma.
Tell me more about these techniques
Ttouch reduces tension, relieves pain and swelling and
causes relaxation. Repeated use can reduce healing time.
It has been shown in several research studies to produce a
unique brain wave pattern in the human giving and in the
animal receiving the Ttouch. A pattern of all 4 brainwaves
was produced simultaneously indicating that horses can
access logical thought. Ttouch is unique in it's ability to put
them in the "right frame of mind for learning" opening the
way for behavior change. Thus, it is a unique tool both for
healing and training.
Myofacial Release targets the tough connective tissue that
surrounds all muscle, spreading a three dimensional web
throughout the body. Myofacial Release causes the tissue
to lengthen, restoring the proper mechanical length to the
connective tissues. This restoration of length and function to
previously restricted tissues can relieve pain, as well as
restore alignment and mobility to joints. This provides good
long-term results after treatment.
Symmetry in Motion
Is a specific group of techniques targeted at returning
horses and riders to symmetry. Included are myofascial
release techniques, joint manipulation techniques and
stretching techniques. Lack of symmetry contributes to pain
and degeneration in the body, inability to turn equally,
jump In both directions, pick up a correct lead in both
directions, uneven gait, and can even be perceived as or
contribute to lameness. Rider unevenness can cause pain
and discomfort for both horse and rider. Symmetry in Motion
addresses issues in both horse and rider to create greater
ease and harmony.
Reiki balances the energy flow through the body. Physical,
mental or emotional injury can cause the flow to become
blocked or warped. With application of Reiki techniques a
more balanced flow can be restored. The results can be
seen in improved attitude and performance.
Cold Laser has recently been approved by FDA for
humans after many years of research. Penny participated in
these studies as a therapist for three years. Cold laser
increases the cell’s ability to heal itself. Obvious benefits:
reduced pain and swelling, faster healing of injuries, less
scarring, and in some cases a restart of healing in old “cold”
injuries. Invisible proven result: stronger healing of muscle
fibers. Many studies have been done using “cold” or “low
level” laser therapy. At the Flint, Mi, GMC auto
manufacturing plant workers who had been diagnosed with
carpal tunnel were treated with a variety of therapies
including surgery. The therapy with the highest recovery
rate and the lowest reoccurrence rate (including surgery)
was cold laser. Carpal tunnel syndrome is difficult to heal
and involves tendons, ligaments, muscles and bone. Laser
therapy is painless, quiet and easy to apply, making it a
good choice for horses.
Is my horse a candidate for Equine Bodywork?
Horses in training, horses with a history of poor training or
treatment, horses that perform repetitive movements in any
discipline, horses with a history of lameness, injuries or
surgeries, and just plain backyard friends can all benefit
from Equine Bodywork. Pain, decreased mobility, difficulty
with lead changes, sore or "cold backed", irritability,
"laziness", stiffness to one side, short-stridedness, muscle
spasms, decreased performance, and mysterious
undiagnosable lameness, have all been relieved by this
combination of techniques.
