Land Planning and Management
Stable and Land Planning and Management

If you have been involved with horses for awhile, I’m sure you have seen the small
acreage property which has turned from a bit of heaven to a rugged piece of rocks
and dust within months of the arrival of horses.

The majority of people would prefer to see their horse property green, productive
and beautiful, providing grazing for their horses and habitat for a variety of wildlife.
Unfortunately, that is not what usually happens because most horse owners have
little knowledge of land management. In out region, virtually no information is
available specifically for managing horse property in central Texas.

Due to the unique geography and climate of our bit of paradise, creating beautiful,
productive horse property is especially challenging. I offer horse property planning
and management service which can prevent the destruction of horse property or
can revitalize property that has been degraded.  I have over 25 years of experience
and training in stable management, farm management, horse husbandry, design
and  ecology. I offer property assessment, layout and management plans
specifically for  horse people.

This service benefits not only you, but also the immediate community, your
geograpic area,  and the environment.  The immediate community benefits
because a well designed and managed property is attractive and keeps
neighborhood property values high. Neighbors are not bombarded with dust and
unpleasant smells. Local creeks are not polluted by runoff. Well designed and
managed  properties attract other prospective buyers.  If horse properties are
allowed to degrade other horse people shopping in the neighborhood may think
that property in this neighborhood cannot support horses .And non-horse people
don’t want to live next to a smelly, muddy, dusty, rocky neighbor..

Every region has its environmental gems. In Central Texas it is our clean, clear
rivers, lakes and streams.  Each poorly managed property contributes to the
pollution of these gems and each well managed property contributes to their
conservation. By helping to prevent land degradation, we all get more of what we
live here for. Whatever region you live in, whatever your regional gems, I can help
you plan and manage your property in a way that makes it easier to manage, more
economical, safer and friendlier for your horses, and more fun for you.

Most of the problems created by horses on small properties are caused by
trampling and overgrazing, poor fence and building layout, or lack of a management
plan and can be prevented by (1) correct planning and installation of fences,
buildings and grasses.   (2) A management plan specific to the property, the owner’
s needs and the number and type of horses.

I can provide you with the expertise to plan and maintain the best horse property your
budget can afford. My rates are very reasonable at $100.00 per hour. I promise you
that I will save you far more than you will spend on my services, by steering you to
economical ways to utilize your properties best assets and avoid the pitfalls of
inappropriate usage.

"By following Penny's
recommendations, my previously
sparse pastures now have lush
grass. Other horse owners are
constantly telling me "Boy, you
have nice grass". Penny
showed me how to make the
most of my natural resources
while keeping my fencing costs
down."
