Penny Stone's training techniques emphasize understanding horses, relieving fear and pain, and creating quiet cooperation. She uses the horses natural way of being to help horses and horse people communicate better. Her techniques also take horses beyond instinctive and herd behavior and teaches them how to "learn to learn" by overiding the 5 F's- natural horse responses to fear, pain, or fear of pain. Her methods are gentle, quiet and calm, and produce the same qualities in horses.
Penny Stone has been training horses professionally since 1980. A graduate of Merideth Manor International School of Horsemanship, she has also learned from several Dressage masters in repeated clinics and United States Dressage Federation riding camps. She continues to learn through experience, reading and watching. She has trained winners at the local and statewide level in Dressage, Hunters, Paso Fino, Endurance and Competitive Trail riding. She has shown successfully herself in Dressage, Driving, and Paso Fino shows. She has also started scores of young horses, and trained many wonderful trail horses.
Penny began riding in childhood and rode Western until the day, in her early 20's when she picked up an English saddle. She realized how much lighter and easier it was to put on the horse, and began the english riding phase of her life.
Her training methods have been most heavily influenced by the fundamentals of dressage, and by Tellington Method;.TTEAM and Ttouch.
Dressage is foundation training for any sport. It emphasizes balance, suppleness, connection and honest forward movement. Tellington Methods emphasize connection, balance, understanding, mutual respect, kindness, gentleness and meeting the horse where it is to take it forward to a new way of being. Tellington Method is the grandmother of the natural horsemanship movement, having recently celebrated the 30 year anniversary of its being recognized as a training system. As clinician Frank Bell said " the natural horsemanship movement is about a kinder, gentler approach, but Linda (Tellington-Jones) has just taken it so far beyond (that) ".
Penny uses Ttouch to create relaxation, an awakened mind state, and well being for the horse so that the horse can learn and cooperate. With these tools, a steady work ethic, and a philosophy of elevating the horse and rider to their highest potential, Penny can train horse and rider to be a happy, high performance team.
Her training program includes bodywork for the horses, groundwork and riding. Penny trains near Austin, Texas at the Polo Club. She also trains at Lake and Creek Horse Ranch, near Driftwood., TX
